VectorMount for GoPro – Centrifugal fun
Point of view (POV) cameras are all the rage now, and it seems that new models from manufacturers are popping up all over the place. Being able to take POV footage is great, but sometimes the footage from a static mounting position can get a bit boring. How do you make your footage stand out from the mountains of footage being posted on YouTube everyday? VectorMount is a vehicle mounting system for the GoPro range of cameras that uses inertial and centrifugal force to swing the camera around, giving a much more dynamic view. For example, rather than filming where the front of the car is ”looking” for the whole time, the VectorMount allows you to dynamically “look into the corner” just like the driver’s view would be.
The modular system starts at $249 for their tri-base package, and additional mounts and accessories are available from their estore.

HTC Windows Phone 8X for T-Mobile: what's different?
You've seen it twice before and you're bound to see it two more times yet. It's the Windows Phone 8X by HTC, Microsoft's signature ambassador to all things mobile and Live-Tiled, and it's now available on T-Mobile. As the carrier's sole WP8 flagship, it arrives with a bit of a stiff leg -- there's none of the flexibility exercised by AT&T's variant, as it comes in just one color (California Blue) and one 16GB storage configuration. At $199 on a two-year contract, the 8X is a pricier buy for T-Mobile's value-minded customers (especially with the $150 Lumia 810 also available). So although we've already passed judgment on both of its GSM twins, we're here to tell you how Magenta's version breaks from the pack.

Alleged 4-inch Samsung Galaxy Axiom leaks, could be headed to US Cellular
The always-informative evleaks has done it yet again. This time out it's not a Lumia 920 or some revealing press shots of the PadFone 2, though -- instead, what we have here is what appears to be a variant of Samsung's recently announced Galaxy Mini. According to evleaks, this 4-inch handset will be officially known as the Galaxy Axiom (model SCH-R830), and could very well end up on US Cellular, bringing with it a WVGA display alongside a decent dual-core, 1.2GHz MSM8960 CPU, LTE and Ice Cream Sandwich. Naturally, take this with a grain of salt, but given the messenger's recent track record, it also wouldn't surprise us if we hear something more official in the days to come. In the meantime, however, it looks as if the picture above will have to suffice.

Lady Gaga Still Wants To 'Act Like I'm 19'
Mother Monster covers the September issue of Vogue and talks about how despite her fame, she still likes to 'feel a little irresponsible.'
By Jocelyn Vena
<P>This year's September issue of <a href="http://www.vogue.com/magazine/article/dream-girl-lady-gaga/#1" target="_blank"><i>Vogue</i></a> is important not only because it's the <i>September issue,</i> but because it celebrates the magazine's 120 years in the business. And they've chosen the one and only <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> as their cover girl.</P><P>For her <a href="/news/articles/1657656/lady-gaga-vogue.jhtml">second cover</a>, Gaga went ultra-glam; her hair platinum and big paired with an off-the-shoulder, mermaid-cut Marc Jacobs gown in multiple shades of fuchsia, purple and pink.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Twitter Lightning Round!" id="vid:683377" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>The cover line promises, "Think you know Lady Gaga? Think again." And, in several quotes teased from the issue, which officially hits newsstands on August 14, Gaga dishes on not only her <i>Born This Way</i> Ball, but also the reasons she makes the music she does.</P><P>She also explained why it was so important that her fragrance appear so dark. "The fragrance is called <a href="/news/articles/1690972/lady-gaga-racy-fame-perfume-ad.jhtml">Fame</a>. It must be black," she said, noting that when she met with perfume designers they had to make sure it sprayed on clear. "It must be enticing. You must want to lick and touch and feel it, but the look of it must terrify you." As for her massive stage show, she explained that she wanted to "break the mold of what modern touring is now" and reinvent some of the images she's best known for, including that meat dress she wore to the 2010 VMAs.</P><P>"We were talking about putting the show together, and I said, 'OK, what if I was someone's grandma and I was going to a concert tonight? How would I know that it was a Gaga show?' " she said. "And we all just sort of looked at each other and said, 'The meat dress.' "</P><P>If the meat dress wasn't distinction enough, Gaga said what also makes her shows different is the way they make you feel. "I don't really make records for people to listen to and go, 'Wow, she's a genius.' " She added, "I'd really like you to order a drink, maybe kiss the person you came with that evening, or rediscover something about your past that makes you feel even more brave."</P><P>She explains in the issue that sometimes she doesn't just feel brave in her music, but also in her real life. And, despite her extremely high profile, she says she likes to "feel a little irresponsible and act like I'm 19." According to the <a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iXsp_pZdcwCVC_SZc5hL-ZaO1fwQ?docId=109e045a451c442f9fcfaac07423da14" target="_blank">Associated Press</a> she added that there are times when she can "roll into a bar" and dance on a bar, or perhaps even have sex on the beach incognito.</P><P>The photos for the issue were shot by fashion photography team Mert & Marcus. In one inside photo teased Gaga wears nothing but a big, feathered hot pink hat by Steven Jones.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga's Musical Roots" id="vid:657640" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P>

Cloud TV Box review
Do you want to display Internet content on your TV? Do you like your Android cell phone or tablet and wish you could have the same features for your TV? Sungale says they have the solution with their Cloud TV Box. Now you can play Angry Birds and display Facebook on a large flat-screen TV. I’ve been using the device for a while now and am trying to convince myself that it’s something worth having and where it fits in with all the other net devices out there.
The device looks interesting on paper, but in actual use there are some issues.
Features:
- Streaming TV and videos from the Internet
- Preloaded RSS TV stations and interesting videos
- 1080P gives you hi-resolution enjoyment
- Full function Internet browser
- Social Network on your TV (Facebook, Twitter, MSN, Skype, Email)
- Education and Game apps are available
Here’s what comes in the package. Interestingly, one set of batteries were included, but two sets are needed: one for the remote and one for the mouse.
Specifications:
- 1GHZ Cortex A9 CPU
- DDRIII 512MB RAM
- Powered by Android OS (2.3.4)
- Full HD 1080P hardware video decoder
- HDMI interface, CR CB Y, VIDEO L R
- Built-in WiFi to link to your router automatically
- Full function remote control
- Motion sensor remote control (Optional)
- Keyboard and mouse support (optional)
- SD/SDHC card slot, up to 32GB
- USB 1, USB 2, Ethernet jack
- Product Dimension: 166x166x36mm
In the back there are 2 USB ports. Another one is on the side. There are composite and component outputs, but the special cable is not provided. Unfortunately, if you need to use AV, you first have to connect the box to an HDMI TV and then reset the output to AV.
On the side you have another USB and the memory card slot.
The shipment originally contained a wireless mouse, but the folks at Sungale later sent an air mouse, pictured on the right.
Setup is simple. I opted to connect to the Internet using Ethernet, hence I didn’t go through the wireless procedure. The first thing I had to do after I got the home screen was to adjust the screen size. This is spelled out in the quick start guide. By the way, as with all quick start guides this just provides the bare essentials to understanding the device. The full user manual is available at Sungale’s website.
This is the home screen. Along the bottom of the screen are icons that take you directly to certain functions. The browser gives you Chrome for Android. The news brings you to a BBC site. Weather didn’t work because it couldn’t figure out my location. Video plays some video file types from connected media. Pictures will go to your Picasa account and display your photos, if you give your log-in credentials. The music icon plays music from your storage device plugged into the USB ports. The Game and Education icons are user-programmable, and the WiFi icon is for setting up WiFi on the device.
Some of the apps are displayed above. I was particularly interested in the Gmail app, so I could read my email on the TV screen. After giving my login particulars, I could access my email. Then it occurred to me, anyone using the TV could click on Gmail and read my mail. It’s then I discovered there is no way to delete the account without doing a reset to the device. Boy, was that a mistake!
Apparently, the box comes preloaded with modified apps from the supplier. I tried to download them from the Google Play Store and was informed they weren’t compatible with my system. This set me back a bit, because the basic firmware isn’t very feature rich. Thankfully, the supplier sent me some zip files with the apps. I did however, eliminate my Gmail account from the system.
I was excited to try out the Hulu Plus app, but unfortunately it was not supported. The issue of supported device came up with many of the apps I downloaded.
The device does have a browser and it worked OK, as long as you have a lot of patience and connect a keyboard. The hardware is slow at rendering pages, and the on-screen keyboard is difficult to use with either the mouse or air mouse Movement about the page is accomplished with the same gestures you would use with an Android phone or tablet. Find a non-active spot on the page and grab it with the cursor. Then pull up or down. It takes some practice.
The device is billed as Cloud TV. Well, what you get is an aggregation of channels you can find on the Internet. These supply mostly clips of previous shows. You can get the same content and results with a PLAYON subscription and a Roku box. This device would not cause anyone to give up their basic cable subscription.
Most of the streaming channels are a little eccentric for me.
OK, I admit it. Playing Angry Birds on a 32″ TV was fun. My preference was to use the wireless mouse instead of the air mouse for better control. This was one of the apps I tried to download from the Play Store after I reset the device. It claimed it was incompatible, but the one that comes with the box obviously works.
After several weeks of using the Cloud TV, I can’t figure out what the market is for the device. From a hardware standpoint, it is essentially an Android tablet that has added HDMI and USB ports. From a content perspective, one could use a computer to get everything available on the Cloud TV, and if displaying on a TV was important, you could hook the laptop to your TV. I can even play Angry Birds on the laptop and display it on my TV. I also found it frustrating to move around the screen. The O/S seems to be optimized for a touch screen and flicking with a cursor is a hit or miss proposition.
There are better options for receiving TV over the Internet. Most of the programs I enjoy are available via Hulu Plus a day after broadcast. If you’re a techie, this device will frustrate you. If you’re not, you’ll be more than frustrated.
